Golly, tomorrow is the great holy day, isn't it? I don't believe I've heard a word said about it -- quite a contrast from last year, the Tin Anniversary. Are people getting bored? About time, if so.

Obama has taken the day off from campaigning. That's a celebration of sorts, no?

In my mind, the key legacy of 9/11 is that it represents the historical watershed when the United States stopped murdering hundreds of thousands of Iraqis through economic sanctions and started murdering them through occupation and war. Maybe after the next terrorist attack, the U.S. will finally finish them all off with predator drones.

Steven - that link you had is just amazing. Either my reading comprehension is not what I think it is or that is a seriously weird recounting of a story.

They went there to either capture or kill, but then when they find Bin Laden moving after being shot, they don't shoot him in the hand or knees - they shoot him a "handful of times" at point blank range.

They were fired on from the get-go in the house, yet he says at first that a person's head just popped around the corner and then they shot him and he never fired any weapons. So, who started shooting, exactly?

Best bit - it is one of Osama's little kids that ID the guy to the SEALS since all guys with beards seem to look the same to these guys.

Jesus Christ this is horseshit, as my dear Pappie would say. I agree with you Steven, can we please have better written propaganda? Gah!

I'm no fascist but I would rather write it *for them*, gratis, than read such puerile horse shit!

(knock on the door)

Erm... hold on a minute...

(of course, the point is to get us invested in/arguing about narrative filigree, and move us *away* from the OBL-as-obvious-sock-puppet Theory that just ruins Their day... while also bringing a little bump back to BHO's poll numbers)

"maybe everyone forgot"

What were we talking about again?

Not taking task, as I know you didn't mean it that way at all (and may have been referring to only those the united states no longer willing to accept it as a valid Hero Anniversy and reason for what has transpired in the interim ..among other reasons it’s lost it’s ‘shine’), Michael, when I comment that I very much doubt iraquis, afghanis, pakistanis, iranians, palestinians & israelis & jews against zionists, and the now (yet historic and ancient) openly acknowledged, africans ...as 'enemies sitting on precious resources' living and suffering in that non desicion making class, will always remember it..... in their nightmares ..... and daymares.

Well, you can listen to Chris "The Baby Eater" Matthews blustering with his guests on MSNBC, or you can read that pantload of smarm that CNN can always be counted on to deliver... or, you can check out this action.

Nice link, Mike. But "9-11 WIDOW" on a thong?

"Obama vows to 'bring justice' to killers in US Embassy attack in Libya"

Well, you were expecting a last-minute saber-rattling opportunity, weren't you? Consider ourselves lucky if this is as far as they go.

Steven Augustine sez on 09.12.12 @11:27:

"Obama vows to 'bring justice' to killers in US Embassy attack in Libya"

Wow, a little early for the October Surprise, huh? D'ahh, what the hell; they'll take it.

Is there a link for that headline? I'm thinking there may be a cartoon in that, if I can just come up with something good while the whole Libyan Embassy shitstorm is still hot in the news...

Good Gawd, they just keep coming! This in the NYT:

"The unexpected developments of the past 24 hours came just as Mr. Obama and Mr. Romney were starting their postconvention fall sprint to Election Day and forced international affairs back into a discussion that has centered largely on the economy and domestic issues. Neither campaign wants to focus on the outside world at a time when 23 million Americans are out of work or underemployed, and while national security has been a strength for Mr. Obama in polls, neither campaign can be sure of how unpredictable overseas events will play with a domestic audience."

(-Written by reporter Joey Gerbils)

Hysterical! The *last* thing the Incumbent wants to do right now is TALK ABOUT... oh, fuck it. Duh-Masses will eat it up anyway.

Anonymous:

your radicals are having themselves a time in chicago. i'm sure you love it. but who cares about little nigra kiddies anyway when u r own kids went to horace mann on the bus wit bill keller. heck this southern belle doesn't even think black or white exist. shit what do you expect from a cracker.

MJS:

Well, yes, Anon (or poikilonon?). Lowered expectations are a thing I always encourage.

diane:

Oh yes Anonymous, so happy you brought that up!

And speaking of the Chicago (National no cursive allowed) pubic $chool $ystem ...being enforced ....

I’ve often wondered how many minions, the non caucasian (some actually think he is ‘black’ due to his semite features), non southern, zionist, nine fingered belle: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel .... and hiz palz (certainly not known to be a majority of ‘southern belles’ (ask lily $$$$whites$$$$$ northerners, Arne Duncan ...and little billy the gateskeeper, from Seattle ), ....nor, necessarily, caucasian (ask Obama and butter job Sharpton)), might have working the tubez to obfuscate and undermine. I’ve read Rahm iz quite scarily adept at keeping track of anything negative said about him (and $$$$hiz$$$$$), ... not beyond going after those ‘enemies’ in the most covert, ‘under the skirts,’ ...yet, ironically.... thuggish and naked steroidal Prick Wagging, sorts of ways. ...Sort of like a deranged, nightmarish ‘ballet.’).

A knee jerk here, that you: "Anonymous," along with “poikilonon” (I’m guessing that equals “Oxy/Karl” or a distant ‘cousin’ of his?) would fit right in with those minions working the tubez for money sex drugs, or rock’n’roll.)

diane:

(i.e. Fuck $$$$$Chartered$$$$$ Corporatized Schools and Fuck the so called 'Public [PRISON RUN] Schools' you Fucking Monsters are getting away with enforcing.)

diane:

(Oh,...and that's certainly not to say there are not way more than enough of $$$$$well fed$$$$$ nasty bloodless '$$$$$$$white$$$$$$ southerners' (and also those 'darker' skinned ones) quite on board for that Vampirec Fest on the blood of the 'under' aged.)

MJS:

The problem with Libya is that it's supposed to be a success story, so nobody seems to know, quite yet, how to compute this one. Keep intervening until the Wogs get it right?

Merkin in Montreal:

Check out this fair and balanced horse shit from the Guardian UK:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/sep/12/us-consulate-attack-libya-gaddafi

It’s not enough to steal their land, drone them to death, rape their women and children, and suffocate them economically. Let’s humiliate the shit out of them by mocking their belief and if they ramble with indignation, call them ignorant fundamentalists who don’t appreciate the freedom of speech. As though there is such a thing as freedom of speech (ask an OWS protester or John Galliano). What I find most offensive is the petty and nasty nature of the victors. So you came, you conquered, and you won. Why rub it in.

Anonymous:

From the Guardian UK article :

Coming amid the US presidential campaign, the attacks are likely to curb what enthusiasm remains for US activism in the Arab world as the fear of Islamist chaos overwhelms hope for the springtime of Arab democracy.

This statement has no connection with the real world. Wrong in uncountable ways. Just e.g. Whose enthusiasm? Whose fear and whose hope? Etc.

But still most readers will nod sadly as they absorb its humbugging import. It makes sense to them. Just as Albright's "it is worth it" moment made sense. "It was a price that was "worth it", so sad, tsk, tsk, and WE had to pay it !? Yeah.

Boink:

I forgot to attach a handle: the 12:01A Anonymous is Boink, still cocking a snook at Maddy after all these years.

"Keep intervening until the Wogs get it right?"

Well exactly. They were *totally* fucked in that there Libya place before we Freedom Bombed 'em! Eg:

***A fact the media cannot falsify is the HDI (Human Development Index) measured by UN officials. These data indicate, for example, that Libya had in 1970, a situation a little worse than Brazil (HDI of 0.541, against 0.551 of Brazil.) The Libyan index surpassed the Brazilian years later, and in 2008 was well ahead: 0.810 (ranked 43rd), compared to 0.764 for Brazil (ranking 59th). All three sub-indices that comprise the HDI are higher in Libya: income, longevity and education. Libya is the country with the highest HDI in Africa. Therefore, the best distribution of income and health care and public education—the last two are free. And almost 10% of Libyan students receive scholarships to study in foreign countries. In his “Green Book” Gadhafi wrote that workers should be politically involved and self-employed, and that the land belongs to those who work it and the house to those who reside there. And power shall be exercised by the people directly, without intermediaries, without politicians, through popular congresses and committees, where the whole population decides the fundamental issues of the district, city and country...real democracy, not capitalist “representative” democracy that works for those who have the most and ignores those who have little. (Taken from “Who Is Muammar Gaddafi?” by Antonio Cesar Oliveira)

Before the current USNATO military invasion, Libya was pumping one million 800 thousand barrels a day of excellent quality light oil, along with abundant deposits of natural gas. Such riches—because shared with the Libyan people--allowed Libya to reach life expectancy that is almost at 75 years of age and the highest per capita income in Africa. In December 1951, Libya became the first African country to attain its independence after WWII. Its harsh desert is located over an enormous lake of fossil waters, equivalent to more than three times the land area of Cuba; this has made it possible to construct a broad network of pipelines of fresh water that stretch from one end of the country to the other. (Taken from “Does NATO Plan To Occupy Libya?” by Fidel Castro, 2/22/11)****

Plus, Have we mentioned this already?

op:

The attack in ben

Was part of a series of anti nato actions

The use of the rally as cover was of course sensible opportunism

"Obviously the yanks were caught
In a major security break down"

OP, please don't bite my head off over this remark (laugh)... but... don't you think there's a distinct possibility that the whole thing's a bit more... sinister... than that...?

"Neither campaign wants to focus on the outside world at a time when 23 million Americans are out of work or underemployed, and while national security has been a strength for Mr. Obama in polls..."

Shifting the conversation *away" from those 23 million is just what the campaign to reelect BHO needs right now. What a coincidence.

Cut to: a dramatic manhunt... reassuringly macho talk from the WH... a sudden intelligence "break-through"... a tomahawk missile fired into a mudhut or some Seals rappelling through a "compound" window... a late-breaking suppertime press conference declaring "justice done"... and, voila! A frigging October Surprise landslide.

Well, that's one possible scenario.

The "October Surprise" notion suggests a news cycle which hasn't been common since 1992.

There haven't been October Surprises since Clinton was Jones spoofed, because the news cycle favors shorter lead times for the major story, replaced often.

Look at how little damage the "Bush drove drunk" so-called "revelation" did.

In any case, whatever happens, we won't like it.

Boink:

From the NYT, Madame Secretary speaks:

“There are, of course, different views around the world about the outer limits of free speech and free expression, but there should be no debate about the simple proposition that violence in response to speech is not acceptable,” she said. “We all — whether we are leaders in government, leaders in civil society or religious leaders — must draw the line at violence. And any responsible leader should be standing up now and drawing that line.”

Now. Draw the line at violence.

Boink:

Obama got hold of this statement and said to Hillary: " 'Violence in response to speech is not acceptable'! Why didn't tell me before I fried Awlaki?

Merkin in Montreal:

While WaPo and the NYT are busy regurgitating the usual chiding from Obie and Madame Secretary, the Independent UK has pieced together the real story behind the attacks complete with sighting their sources from the State Department. Looks like the Empire was caught flat footed again. See for yourself:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/revealed-inside-story-of-us-envoys-assassination-8135797.html

Hard to sift through the interlocking layers of free-floating, decontextualized, orphan propaganda in both of those pieces, though... nobody wants to waste a "crisis", apparently, and many sides would appear to want to use this one. Geopolitical cacophony ensues.

But the most powerful player in this crazy game is the one who stands to gain the most: the man/cabal who will use this to boost his polling numbers. Not only this event on its own but the way it'll bring back the 911/OBL meme for another jingoistic juicing. "BHO: tough on crime! 12 more years!"

My only question: was the echoing of last year's Gaddafi's death photo, in this week's death-photo of the diplomat/operative who had a hand in Gaddafi's downfall, on purpose? Or synchronicity?

chomskyzinn:

It's just not allowed to be suggested, even hinted at, in our corporate media that the riots and "reactions" to the Muhammad youtube oevre are a proxy for rage at just about everything Uncle is, does, and stands for throughout the region. I obviously don't need to catalog the offenses here. But "lefties" like Rachel Maddow are in a tizzy about "free speech," ignoring entirely, and as ever, the source of rage.

MJS:

Free speech is a great thing, but there are bars where if injudiciously exercised it will earn you a well-deserved punch in the jaw. Of course in this case the 'free speech' in question was clearly meant as a deliberate provocation; the only question is, who-all was in on the scheme.

"Of course in this case the 'free speech' in question was clearly meant as a deliberate provocation; the only question is, who-all was in on the scheme."

We need to interrogate Terry Jones. Can you waterboard someone with 18th century facial hair...?

Boink:

They have had a lot of practice with people with 8th century facial hair. So maybe they can ...
