In one of my regular trips down to the kitchen for a sandwich and a beer, I made my usual stop off at the bedroom to see what the DW had going on the idiot box just in time to catch a promo for Melissa Harris-Perry's new program on MSNBC.
Yeah, that's right, the blandly cute Melissa Harris-Lacewell-Perry-F'Tang-F'Tang-Bus-Stop-Olé-Biscuit-Barrel has got her own little show on MSNBC now. The Mayans were right. The End Times are here.
In the meantime, I'm actually finding myself in agreement with Sam Smith regarding the ejection of Pat Buchanan from the lineup of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program, an island of rightist apologia in a sea of centrist-liberal crackpot realism:

On one point, though, I have to disagree with Sam: not all of the commentators on MSNBC are shouters. Granted, Scarborough is a massive windbag, Ed Schultz an old-school blowhard, and Chris "The Baby Eater" Matthews a world-class howler who adds the extra touch of leaning into the camera so he appears to be bellowing at you, personally, at home -- but then, you have Rachel Maddow, who isn't a shouter at all, but whose haughty, clipped, chirping delivery is no less annoying.

I can't stand any of the 24/7 nooze channels and avoid them assiduously. They cause brain rot and I've got booze for that.
Occasionally I might tune in to Free Speech TV or Current TV.

If you close your eyes while listening to Rachel, you'll swear it's actually Dino Flintstone.

Huh... sorry, I'm drawing a blank on that one...

Well, as much as I detest the "Boss Media", I'm forced to check them out regularly; after all, my business is satire, and the likes of the Washington Post, NY Times, and the cable chattering-class networks are a gold mine of cartoon ideas, so I have to at least spend a little bit of time poring over them... but, yeah, you're right on there, Drunken One; it's all bullshit.
If, on the other hand, I want to see some actual reporting... yeah, FSTV is where I go, although Amy Goodman's becoming dangerously close to Donkeycratic and lately relies a bit too much on the same kind of "expert sources" that the BM likes to trot out... and I can only watch so many documentaries about how fucked up things are before I want to get drunk and slit my wrists. Just once, I'd like to see FSTV present a documentary that's a little more inspiring and uplifting, like a documentary about all the companies in India whose executives were dragged out of their offices and beaten to death by mobs of workers following layoff announcements.
As far as CurrentTV goes... well, it's cool that they picked up Olbermann's program -- he was probably the one MSNBC commentator least inclined to being a Democratic White House mouthpiece, but, still... CurrentTV is the Al Gore Channel, which means, basically, Democrats.

Melissa is *perfect* for MSNBC. May God preserve her to long life and immortal renown, and may she show her fetching ankles to be bitten here for decades to come.

Oh, yeah, him. As bland and nondescript a standard-issue Liberal commentator can get. That's probably why I didn't remember him. (Still, I actually kinda dig Dylan Ratigan, though.)
I like how, now, MSNBC has all these network promos where the commentators do little capsule commentaries about how The People are being screwed, and what needs to happen to save The American Dream™... all except, apparently, for Joe Scarborough. Gee, why do you think that is?
Scarborough would probably deliver some grumpy rap about how people who spend their lives working and saving and trying to do the right thing don't have any right to expect a pension, about how old people should hurry up and die because they're a burden on the healthcare system, and how we should fire every public-sector employee we can get our hands on -- all while doing shots of single-malt scotch and sucking on a Marlboro.
Y'know, now that I think of it... shit, man, I'd tune in to watch that. It'd certainly be more entertaining than all the smarmy, insincere touchy-feely Liberal babbling from MSNBC's Donkeycratic mouthpieces. Y'ever see the one that Rachel Maddow does while sitting in a diner, where she illustrates her point with salt and pepper shakers? Jeezus, I hate that one. It makes me want to shove my fist through the screen and into the electron beam, trans-substantiating the essence of my fist into the satellite box, up from the dish, out to the satellite, back down to the studio, out of the camera and into Rachel Maddow's smug little face.

One of TV's benefits is that, if you have to watch it, the volume control can turn a shouter into merely a whiny chirper--or vice versa. Give them new personalities if it helps, or adjust the contrast and turn Matthews into a redeye.

RM reminds me of Dana Carvey's Dennis Miller impersonation minus the head-bob. And after Keith "This is man on the moon!" Olbermann's election eve performance in '08, I have trouble taking him seriously. The Missy Perry Show will be an immediate success (and none too soon, eh?)
