The NYPD creeps seem to have entrapped some hundreds of Occupy Wall Street participants on the Brooklyn Bridge, and are now arresting them and shipping them off in buses ordered up from Rikers Island -- New York City's local portion of the American gulag archipelago -- well before the contrived emergency occurred. Clearly a premeditated move.
One wonders whether Czar Michael(*) himself was down with this. I had the strong feeling, last night, that the cops were restraining themselves with great difficulty from their usual amusements with pepper spray, BDSM gear, and toilet plungers; and I figured that this reflected an ukase right from the Kremlin, to the effect that we don't want any more pepper-spray embarrassments. Leave 'em alone, they'll get bored and go away.
Did the rather impressive numbers last night change the Czar's mind? Or have the cops taken the initiative here, and created, as our Israeli friends say, "facts on the ground"?
Either way, the OWS comrades should feel very pleased. Clearly they are being taken seriously by people in positions of authority -- if not by crabby old Marx queens on mailing lists.

PS -- Serendipity department: Literally a second after I posted this, the following plopped into my inbox:
New York City Police Foundation — New YorkAccent on the "us", hey Jamie?JPMorgan Chase recently donated an unprecedented $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple. The money will pay for 1,000 new patrol car laptops, as well as security monitoring software in the NYPD's main data center.
New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly sent CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon a note expressing "profound gratitude" for the company's donation.
"These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe," Dimon said. "We're incredibly proud to help them build this program and let them know how much we value their hard work."
Really, as they say, you can't make this stuff up.

You are soooooo right, as always. No one should DARE criticize these wonderful young hipsters, these groovy group-thinkers, in their latest enthusiasm. Last year, oh how they LOOOOOOVED Obama and thought we should all join hands and love Obama. Now they are doing this and they think we should all just LOOOOOOOOVE them for it (did you catch the opera-queenie note I threw in there for you, my homophobic friend)? Gee, I wonder what orgies of enthusiasm they'll be indulging in next week?
Basically these same little brats, I suspect, tore my head off and ostracized me when I dared to question their love for Obama a year ago, EVEN A WEEK AGO. Gee, I'm sorry but I just can't quite find it in my heart to worship them right now. And I have to wonder, have any of them thought to care one teensy little bit about the people being blown to bits by their former God in Libya right now? Have they even tried to put the pieces of the puzzle together? Oh no. No time for that. They have a reggae concert to go to with their hipster pals, to show off their dreads.
Their group think fascism isn't any nicer because it happens to be accidently on target at this moment.

As usual, I'm strongly struck by the thought that no matter how muddled the OWS kids may be, their critics are a lot more muddled.

The arrests are an education in endurance and solidarity. It doesn't seem like much, at first, but a night or two as a guest of the penal system hones the senses. And the ability to identify with those who are more regularly victimized by power.

I can't say that the majority of the demonstrators were ever fans of either Obama or Qaddafi. Who are you talking about? A few people you met in the past? I guess anyone who opposes plutocracy is all the same person. That means you must be a gun toting trigger happy redneck, because you Obama haters are all the same.

Very well aimed! Just that these queens exhibit the severe morality ("high Troskyist") of the stuck-up civil servant and none of the former's charms.

Richard Seymour is unhappy that "some of this is mired in what [he] would consider a destructive and caricatured anti-Leninism."

I have a feeling that some commenters here are unaware of the usage of the word 'queen' in a generic sense -- e.g. 'show queen', someone who sees everything on Broadway. In this sense the word implies nothing about sexual 'orientation' -- something for which I wish we had a better word, by the way.

...'queen' in a generic sense.
Reminds me of something Orwell wrote, which, imho, can be transposed mutatis mutandis to matters sexual:
Not that a dictionary is the last word on the subject, but here's the sixth and last definition of Queen [noun] from my dictionary:
6 informal offensive a male homosexual, typically one regarded as ostentatiously effeminate.
However you meant it, it was deliciously on the mark in more ways than one (other than the offensive one, of course, which is highly context-sensitive to begin with and one hopes is not likely in a forum like this).

Dictionaries are always behind the curve. That's why their only real usefulness is historical at best -- though some of them reveal startling ignorance even on that level.

Queen as a blast long since lost it's sting
But it never lost it's smell
The tinkle of a slur on a chaps macho
Even an "inverts " macho
to use my favorite pseudo clinical term
Nellie is now quite out of fashion among Inverted passion fashionistas...no?
