Shorter Samuel Brittan.
The findings are in: for actually existing economists, a knowledge of the economy is impractical, and irrelevant to their careers.
To my way of thinking, this makes them perfect for guiding, overseeing and opining on actually existing capitalism.

Indeed. Brittan harrumphs a bit of truth. The econ cons in private practice are there for client relations. The econ cons in public practice are there for consumer relations. They're talismans, and sometimes salesmen. Court Merlins. Sockpuppet Merlins. The kids going into it, bless their sociopathic little hearts, consider knowledge of the obfuscatory math the most important subject in their credentialing process.
