The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's south side, has a long history of what even Obama's campaign aides concede is "inflammatory rhetoric," including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own "terrorism."If I were still living in Chicago, I think I might start going to Pastor Wright's church.[In a sermon Pastor Wright says] "The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people," he said in a 2003 sermon. "God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.
"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.
What do you wanna bet that Obama stops going there?

If MLK were alive today, his sermons might sound like this. There was so much more to King than our airbrushed "I have a dream" iconic image media image of the man.
And there was so many more people involved in the Civil Rights struggle than just Dr. King...Malcom X, Black Panthers, et. al.
Obama is a beneficiary of all of that, but how much will he really do to honor that legacy if elected...?

I'm sure he will make very nice keynote speeches at $175 per plate gala dinners. I'm equally sure that as the price per plate goes up, so will his eloquence. Progressives believe in accountability and will settle for nothing less. Given the fire they've displayed to date, they might also demand free-range, grass-fed beef for the gala dinners and tap out harsh text messages on their cell phones if they don't get it.

Louis Farrakhan and Fruit of Islam remain in many urban centers a political force to be taken into account, and it is only a sensible approach to the where and whyfore of that development that is going to displace their credibility over time. The Nation of Islam, like it or not, has helped turn around a lot of black lives that might have just gone down the tubes, and it is Unlike politicians in white communities, black ministers have to have a certain concrete understanding of Farrakhan's appeal, and many times will have to appear on stage with Minister Louis Farrakhan. It's not a matter of agreeing with his anti-semitic perspectives, or upholding his reactionary stance in the assasination of Malcolm. It's like Castro having to do outreach to the Catholic church, or any other religious institution with reactionary elements. The fact that Barack Obama was forced to repudiate Farrakhan a few weeks ago on television is reflective less of Farrakhan's reactionary politics then it is the remaining backwardness among many white "progressives" on this complex question. It really isn't an either-or question for black community leaders who have any credibility.

In reading about the denunciation in today's NYT, it sounds to me like he stopped going there quite a while ago.
It's always worse than even we think it is with these aspiring babysitters.
No biggie, since we're getting Killary anyhow.
