Is it just me, or are the Democrapic candidates really taking a cue from the Chri$tmas marketing hucksters who keep trying to push back the beginning of the Chri$tmas shopping season*?Is it just me, or are the Democrapic candidates really working in a similar fashion as the Olympic hucksters taking advantage of the new staggered schedules for Winter and Summer Games, so that there are Olympics happening every two years -- meaning, basically, almost non-stop Olympic media hype?
Also, am I the only one here who was absolutely revulsed by John Edwards' announcement for the Democrapic nomination, live on NBC 'Toady' the other day -- complete with the obligatory foto-op B-roll of ex-Senator Breck Boy pretending to help out with cleanup operations in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans?
*earliest I'd ever seen: in 1989, a 'Radio Shack Merry Christmas' commercial during the seventh-inning stretch of the last game of the World Series.

I think Edwards is great but I just don't know what has changed since 2004 except that he is two years older. The more I think about the Dems in 2008, the more I think the nomination is Al Gore's to lose: he was robbed in 2000, has been consistently right on Iraq (unlike Hillary), and will not have a problem with either cash or name recognition... i'm not sure
it does any additional harm
if running and re running
for elective public office
becomes an overt
year in year out
24/7
game
look at it this way
it's
a source of funding
for the media streams
that we don't end up
paying for
in higher consumer prices
-------------
and don't try telling me we end up paying for it with worse governence
that's patently nonsense
all two party campaigns
are equally irrelevent
or not
no matter whether they're fought
on budgets
big or small
bigger campaigns
put running further
out of reach for third party wallets ???
so what
who believes but for funding
ralph would be prez
third party national runs
work best
as lesser evil spoilers
or as in the case
of a pat buch
greater evil spoilers
-----------------
i've never found pol ads
any the worse
then tire or deodorant ads
besides
anything
that increases
the cost of "rent" grabs
is an unconditional public good
right now the cost to winners and losers
for a slice of the people's cake
is way too low
we oughta encourage anything
that makes
" the special interests "
pay more for their goodies
always remember
we have plenty of slack heads
out there
ready to hitch to a pay wagon
so
looking at this endless campaign paradigm
this perminent election strtegy
thru
the "parasites are people too "
lense
this oughta keep more parasites well feed
right??
electoral campaigns
are a nice source
of worthless work for reward
bigger "struggle chests"
mean bigger staffs
more polls more Rxs
more ..mores banausic

You may have a point there, on a technical level, but I'm thinking about the survival of my sanity, here.
Dennis The Menace announced for '08 when...towards the end of Novemberish, wasn't it? And now we've got Senator Breck Boy announcing in the week between Christmas and New Year's, driving home the point by -- as the Mexicans say -- "taking a bath in the People".
Used to be, no matter how wretched and awful and banal a Presidential/Congressional/Senatorial/Council/Mayoral election cycle was, I could count on six or eight months of peace and quiet while I healed up after having my consciousness relentlessly beaten into a quivering mush by a torrent of campaign ads, issue ads, allegation ads, setting-the-record-straight ads, truth-squadding, swift-boating, robo-dialing, and candidates' bold declarations on such pressing issues as gay marriage, stem-cell research and flag burning.
Now, here we are not even two months after the most recent edition of the combination USO Spectacular and carnival freak show, and already we have Dennis The Menace and Senator Breck Boy performing the equivalent of a "Radio Shack Merry Christmas" commercial during the goddamn' World Series.
Enough, already. My fucking brain hurts. Fuck "Democracy". Somebody, anybody, just stop the goddamn' torture. Dear God, somebody make it stop:

Stop cleaning out my ears?
Y'know, I've thought of that -- hell, I've often wondered why humans haven't evolved a natural, internal "master gain" control so that when something gets too loud or annoying we could just sort of "turn it down".
Besides, part of my "job" (or perhaps "mission", as they don't pay me) at the IMC is editorial cartoons -- that is, satire -- so I sort of have to sit through crap like the NBC Nightly News and CBS Evening News and The Today Show and Meet The Press ("so you don't have to", as they say) if I'm going to make my usual pithy, raw, sarcastic observations about all these issues, and learn how to draw these goddamn' politicians.
Usually, what happens is that I reach a point where I don't think I can stand anymore and then, while pondering and agonizing over the overwhelming mass of bullshit, I'll have just one more bong hit and suddenly the conceptual levee will burst, resulting in stuff like It's Going To Be A New Day With The New Democratic Majority.
Still, it sure doesn't do my sanity any good when the first thing I see in the morning after having only barely emerged from my REM state is Senator Breck Boy announcing for the Democrapic Presidential nomination while standing in front of some flooded-out, beat-to-shit, ramshackle, still-smelling-of-corpses piece of ground in the Lower Ninth of New Orleans.

i could get father smiff
to bless u my son
and fuse your internal
indignation curcuits
err
but i suspect yer right
the pro creative act
behind yer crazy ass toonery
is dis
very
hellish torture process itself
ie
gettin yer shell like outer ears relentlessly licked
by sugar and acid
tongued pols
ah the eternal burn
of their ceaseless slobber
